About Us

Jewelry Box Rocks grew out of a lifelong interest in rocks and minerals.  My father was a "rock hound" who made jewelry out of the stones he dug, cut and polished.  I spent many hours watching with fascination as he turned a plain looking rock into a beautiful piece of wearable art.  I grew up spoiled - matching jewelry for every special occassion dress!

I collected many pretty rocks throughout my life and soon my collection of rocks gathered too much dust and I decided I would rather wear my collection of rocks than dust them.  Of course, you can't always find what you are looking for to set your rocks, and so eventually I began making my own jewelry.

You can only wear so much jewelry - and so in 2009 I began selling my jewelry and Jewelry Box Rocks was born. I make jewelry for "me" - stuff I like and would wear.  I don't do custom work and I don't necessarily follow trends.  I just try to make the rock(s) look as good as it possibly can and as wearable as it can be  Most of my inspiration comes from nature..

Most of the jewelry is made from semi-precious stones or minerals and sterling silver.  However some other metals are used for some pieces, and I do use some pretty glass.  All items include a complete materials list in their description.  I am not a gemologist and so I rely on the sellers to be honest about the actual content of the rocks that I use in my jewelry pieces. Of course, I have learned a few things through the years and so I am a pretty good judge of what is or isn't a good quality rock.  To see more information about the rocks I use to make my jewelry, check out my Gemstone Information page.

Jewelry Box Rocks is an environmentally friendly enterprise - using as much recycled metal as possible (and recycling back), buying stones from reputable vendors who show concern for the impact of mining on the planet, buying materials from green powered suppliers, using vintage settings, etc.  Every effort is made to reduce the impact of this business on the environment.
